Bury it, worship it, or steward it.

How Christian business owners should use AI.

By Adam Weisner5 min read

People keep asking me how I use AI in the business I run. Under that question is usually a second one: should a Christian be using this at all?

I think there are only three ways to handle it. And only one of them is faithful.

The short version
  1. Don't bury it out of fear.
  2. Don't worship it or let it take the credit.
  3. Steward it: use it to multiply your work and your people, not to cut them.
  4. Start with one task you redo every week. Nothing goes out without your yes.
01

Bury it.

In the Parable of the Talents, a master hands his servants money and leaves. Two put it to work. One digs a hole.

“So I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground.”Matthew 25:25 (ESV)

That servant didn't lose anything. He just didn't multiply anything. And he's the one rebuked. A lot of Christian owners are doing this with AI right now: ignoring it because it feels scary, and calling that caution.

02

Worship it.

The opposite ditch. Trusting it like it's all-knowing, letting it decide for you, or treating it as the hero of your story. It's a tool. It gets things wrong. And it doesn't get the glory.

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”1 Corinthians 10:31 (ESV)
03

Steward it.

Treat it as something you've been given to multiply. Not something to fire people with or get rid of their jobs. Multiply your people, don't cut them.

“Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much.”Matthew 25:21 (ESV)
What it looked like for me

I handed an AI my work.

Not questions. Work. I ran it as a first-principles experiment and tracked every minute: short instructions, about 40 minutes a day, first typed, then spoken.

27xFirst 14 days, typing
23 hrsMy time in 34 days
~1,055Hours of finished work (est.)

It helped with book production, website pages, press pitches, email campaigns and a daily briefing. My hours are measured. The finished-work hours are an estimate of how long a skilled person would take.

My rules

How I keep it faithful.

  1. Nothing goes out without my yes.
  2. Tell people it's AI.
  3. Multiply people, don't cut them.
  4. God gets the glory, not the tool.

Pick one task.

You don't need a tech team or a plan. You need one task you redo every week and an hour to hand it off. Review what comes back before anything goes out. Then do the next one.

Questions

FAQ

Is it wrong for a Christian to use AI in business?

I don't think so. The servant who buried what he was given is the one rebuked. The question is whether you bury it, worship it, or steward it.

Should I use AI to replace employees?

Not in my view. Use it as a multiplier. The person you hire matters more than ever.

Do I need to be technical?

No. One task, one hour, and you review it before it goes anywhere.
